Pilot Upskilling Program

A purpose-built upskilling program was piloted in November 2017 by Ubercare in response to identified gaps in knowledge and skills of future Disability Support Workers. The short program was delivered over four days at ATEC in Western Adelaide to existing independent contractors and job seekers, including those with qualifications but no work experience in the disability sector.

The pilot program aimed to increase the practical skill level of qualified but inexperienced job seekers and existing independent contractors; increasing employment opportunities and ensuring they meet Ubercare’s high standards of care in delivery of their services.

The program aimed to give participants a better understanding of the daily issues faced by clients and support staff, with topic sessions covering Delivering Customer Service, Safe Food Handling and Preparation, Understanding Abuse and Your Responsibilities, and Work Health and Safety requirements.

To date most participants of the pilot have secured some employment or increased their contracted hours.

Disability Care – Southern Upskilling Program

The program will be repeated and include more employers seeking Disability Support Workers in Southern Adelaide from February 2018. It will be delivered in Lonsdale to job seekers who have undertaken Certificate III Individual Support (Disability) and to existing independent contractors wanting to increase their hours.

If you are interested in finding out more or to enquire about participating, please contact Lisa at the Southern Disability Hub on P: (08) 7321 5067.
